What should I pay attention to when installing PPR pipes?

2025-04-16

PPR pipes, also known as type III polypropylene pipes, are the most commonly used water supply pipes in home improvement projects. They are energy-saving and material-saving, environmentally friendly, lightweight and high-strength. They are also widely used in building water supply and drainage, industry and agriculture. When using PPR pipes, we should also pay attention to what PPR is afraid of.

PPR pipe

1. PPR pipes are afraid of ultraviolet rays

Users who have some knowledge of PPR pipes may know that PPR pipes are placed outdoors for a long time and are hardly moved. After a few years, they will become brittle. This is the characteristic of polypropylene materials. They cannot withstand ultraviolet rays, so accelerated aging under the sun is a very normal phenomenon.

2. PPR pipe protection in summer

If you want outdoor PPR pipes to be durable, you only need to protect them a little. The following measures can be taken to protect PPR pipes

(1) Apply a layer of special anti-ultraviolet paint on the surface of the pipe to block ultraviolet rays

(2) There is black sunscreen foam on the market, also called thermal insulation cotton, which can be wrapped around the water pipe. You can buy it where solar water heaters are sold.

(3) You can also use lightweight aluminum foil tape to stick around the outside of the water pipe for a week. It has good stickiness and strong adhesion, and can also play an anti-aging role.

3. Concealed installation of PPR pipes

If conditions permit, it is best to bury the PPR pipes. Because PPR pipes have good corrosion resistance, they will not be corroded when buried underground. This can protect against the sun in summer and prevent freezing in winter. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the sun exposure when using concealed installation for home decoration pipes. Concealed installation is also one of the best treatment methods at present.

4. How to connect PPR pipes

(1) Sometimes you need to use quick-connect joints for emergency treatment. This type of joint is not as convenient and fast as hot melting. It can be used for temporary use. If it is used for a long time, hot melting is more secure.

(2) The connection between water pipes and electrical appliances or different types of pipes needs to be connected with wire parts. In this case, it should be sealed with raw tape.

(3) The linear expansion coefficient of PPR pipes is large, so measures must be taken to prevent pipe expansion and deformation when laying pipes in open installation or non-direct burial concealed installation.
